Picked up a few pounds since Thanksgiving?  Expecting and dreading picking up a few more over Christmas and New Years?  Tired of sucking it in every time you zip up?  Yeah, me too!  Forget about walking 20 minutes a day, getting on the treadmill or killing yourself with aerobic exercises.   Ride a horse!
Riding lessons are [...]

A Word About Round Penning

Know what your goals are.  Don’t just round pen to wear your horse down and don’t round pen unless you have a specific goal in mind for training.  For example, when I round pen a horse the first thing I want to teach that horse is to look at me for direction.  Then I want [...]

Sir Alex will be coming to us by the middle of December.  Sir Alex is a wonderfully bred standardbred who won lots of mulah as a two year old, but as a three year old didn’t progress as quickly as a racer.  So his owners at the time decided to sell him and since he [...]

Gait to the Beat!

Own a gaited horse and can’t quite get the beat?  Try counting with the hoofbeats to get the rhythm.   You can always take a metronome out with you and once you get the beat, memorize your horse’s speed.
It is much easier to learn this by first getting used to the walk.  Sounds elementary, I know, [...]

Confetti was our family pet and trail horse for over a year.  She recently was sold to a wonderful family who’s daughter has fallen in love with her.  I couldn’t have asked for a better home for this mare.  She truly is a special horse and deserves the best home possible.
When I first saw Confetti, [...]
